President
After graduating college, Alex started working for a manufacturers rep firm in the telecommunications industry learning all the parts & pieces that encompasses a complete network system. He performed training classes throughout the mid-Atlantic area on product and system design, new product reviews and supported certified installers. In 2001, Alex took a position with a local contractor selling the systems that he once designed. This company was a large mechanical & electrical shop, so he was encouraged to sell not just network cabling solutions, but the full breath of systems they offered. Alex learned how all the different layers of construction come together as a project is developed with a heavy focus on the data center market. In 2008, Alex decided to start his own business. With a solid client base and the support of his family, Alex started Marathon. Through the years, Marathon has changed management and focus to better align with the core direction he had originally envisioned. Now, 13 years later, Marathon has established itself as a leader in the DMV with multiple multi-year service contracts, regular clients, and solid manufacturer partnerships. Alex has earned many certifications over the years such as Axis, Genetec, Belden, and Bicsi. He also maintains his Maryland Security and DCJS licenses.
As the President of Marathon Technology Solutions, Alex oversees the day-to-day operations of the company, supports sales and marketing efforts, and provide guidance and inspiration to the team. He supports the technology growth with guidance from my peers as they teach me about me and emerging products. Alex works hand-in-hand with the accounting group to ensure our financial growth and stability. He supports our Operations Team on project engineering, planning and execution to establish a streamlined transition. Recently, the marketing decision was made to start attending tradeshows and become more involved in the industry from a promotional standpoint. Alex attends tradeshows, manufacturer conferences, and industry exhibitions to broaden our visibility throughout the industry.
Alex enjoys spending time with his family and playing with my kids. He loves spending time in his garage working on his car.
Director of Administration & Finance
Holly Bush is a highly experienced and results-driven Director of Administration and Finance, bringing over 10 years of expertise in financial management, strategic planning, and operations.
With a proven track record of success in leading finance, accounting, and administrative teams, Holly has consistently exceeded organizational goals and objectives, optimizing processes, improving efficiencies, and increasing revenue.
As Director of Administration and Finance at Marathon Technology Solutions, Holly is responsible for overseeing the organization’s financial operations, strategic planning, and administrative functions. Her leadership and vision will continue to be instrumental in driving the organization’s success and growth in the years to come.
In her free time, Holly enjoys spending time outdoors with her children, fishing, riding ATVs, and going for long walks. Most of all, she loves watching her kids play sports and grow into young adults.
Director of Human Resources & Marketing
Amber Somers joined Marathon in 2022 as our Director of Human Resources & Marketing. Amber has over 8 years of experience in HR, Marketing and Accounting, but also over 15 years of experience in Customer Relations. Amber is certified in Adult & Infant CPR/First Aid, Maryland Security Supervisor certification, DCJS Employee Supervisor certification, Payroll Law, QuickBooks, and she is a Maryland Notary.
As the Director of Human Resources & Marketing, Amber oversees and manages all areas of HR and Marketing at Marathon. Amber Somers also works alongside Camden Hutchinson who is Marathon’s Administrative Marketing Assistant. Amber’s duties include but are not limited to, Employee hiring and selection, Employee engagement and communication, Performance and Risk management, Compensation and benefits, Employee relations, Legal compliance, Employee Onboarding and Exiting, Social Media Management, Social Events, Industry Trade Shows, Vendor Events, Memberships, Promotional Items, Printed Materials, Website Management, Advertising, and more!
Above all else, Amber’s most treasured titles are Wife and Mother. Amber is married to her best friend, Tyler (TJ), and they share two beautiful children Everleigh and Tyler (Ty) Jr. The Somers family enjoys beach vacations, fishing, sports, and spending time with their dogs Bella-Rae & Winnie. One thing that Amber values most is making sure to always spend quality time with her family. She believes life is precious, and family is what matters the most! Some of Amber’s most favorite things are sea turtles, crafting, and line dancing. If she had to pick her most favorite foods they would be crab dip and tacos!
Accounts Manager
After over 20 years in the childcare industry and welcoming two sons of her own into the world Nicky decided it was time for an environmental change. Nicky got a degree in HR Administrative and joined the Marathon team as an Administrative Assistant. Quicky after joining she realized her new passion was handling the business accounts and is now Accounts Manager for the company.
As the Accounts Manager at Marathon, Nicky handles a variety of duties that make sure client and customer needs are being met and accounts within the business stay up to date. Additionally, she oversees the accounting aspect of the business and helps with the administrative side of things. Nicky obtains her Notary Public of the State of Maryland and has completed many courses related to Bookkeeping, Mastering QuickBooks and is a QuickBooks Certified User Online.
When not at the office Nicky enjoys spending time at home with her boys with lots of coffee in hand. Nicky also enjoys spending alone time with her sisters and hosting family gathering at her new home.
Director Of Operations
James Colston joined Marathon Technology Solutions in August of 2022 as a senior account executive with over 17 years of experience in the electronic security systems industry, bringing a wealth of expertise and knowledge to the table. Over the years, he has honed his skills in sales and marketing, developing a deep understanding of the needs and concerns of clients in a rapidly evolving market. James recently accepted the position of the Director Of Operations here at Marathon!
His focus is always on delivering solutions that meet the unique needs of each client, whether they are seeking to protect their assets or their people. He works closely with clients to analyze their risks and vulnerabilities, crafting customized solutions that blend the latest technology with best practices in security and risk management.
Throughout his career, he has built a reputation for integrity, professionalism, and exceptional client service. He takes pride in his ability to build strong relationships with clients, earning their trust and confidence through clear communication, transparency, and reliable support.
As the electronic security systems industry continues to evolve, he remains committed to staying on the cutting edge of technology and best practices. Account Executive
Mike Scarborough is an experienced business professional with a diverse background spanning finance, marketing, operations, and technology. He has a proven track record of success, having served as Vice President of Marketing and Operations at his family’s medical distribution company. In this role, he introduced new products to the market, improved existing products, and forged strategic relationships with customers and manufacturers.
Mike’s proficiency in technology is demonstrated by his previous position at a leading provider of RFID and RTLS systems. There, he leveraged his skills to enhance customer and patient outcomes. As a passionate advocate of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, blockchain, and cybersecurity, Mike is committed to driving innovation and improving efficiency across various industries.
Since joining Marathon Technology Solutions as an Account Executive, Mike has taken pride in collaborating closely with internal teams, such as engineering and marketing, to ensure that his clients’ needs are met and products are delivered on time and within budget. He is a highly committed and proactive professional who stays up-to-date on the latest technology trends and innovations. Mike constantly looks for new ways to add value to his clients’ businesses.
Mike holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business and Economics from McDaniel College, an MBA from Mount Saint Mary’s University, and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Cybersecurity. He also worked as a financial advisor at Morgan Stanley, obtaining multiple financial licenses such as series 7, 65, 63, and 31.
In his free time, Mike enjoys spending time with his family and traveling.
Project Manager (Security)
John has been in the Electronic Security industry since 2005, making him a valuable member of the Project Engineer team at Marathon. Joining us initially in 2021 and rejoining MTS in 2024 after a brief absence, John brings with him extensive knowledge of the industry gained by starting as a helper and working his way up to Project Foreman. Now at, Marathon as one of our Project Engineer’s. In addition to his extensive prior field knowledge, John holds many industry certifications such as AMAG, Gallagher, Avigilon (Access & Video), S2, Honeywell (Vista, Pro-Watch, Max-Pro), Exacq Vision, Cody Blue, Hanwha Wisenet, American Dynamics Video Edge, Eagle Eye, Brivo, Pelco, Senstar. He also maintains a Maryland Security Technician and DCJS licenses. His education includes a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and Associates in General Studies.
As a Project Manager John performs site surveys for existing and potential clients, system design, and full project quoting. He also manages projects start to finish. John states that his goal is, “To meet, if not exceed, all of the customer’s needs to help keep them, their coworkers, and their families safe.”
Personally, you can find John spending time with his wife, Rosemarie and their 2 children. They enjoy spending their free time on their boat, camping, and visiting parks. John’s family are huge Oriole’s fans even when they are having a bad season, you will still find them cheering them on at the Yard!
Infrastructure Superintendent
Truc started in the telecommunications industry when he first came to the United States in 2002. He loves the industry and has been learning and growing so much over these last twenty years. Truc started as a technician and has recently moved into his much deserved role as a Superintendent at Marathon. Truc maintains his Maryland Security and DCJS licenses, as well as OSHA, Lift, and various other certifications.
As a Marathon Superintendent Truc makes it his mission to help the field technicians be successful, and prides himself in forming outstanding relationships with our clients. Truc is often praised by clients for his high quality of work, reliability, and overall professionalism. Marathon recently awarded Truc with a Perseverance award, that he was very honored to have received.
Truc is currently residing in Northern Virginia with his wife and three children, 2 girls and 1 boy. In his spare time, he enjoys watching food channels and working on projects around the house. He loves traveling and enjoys taking his family to the beach or camping in the woods. His dream is to take his family on a road trip across America from East coast to West coast, making stops to enjoy the beautiful sceneries and eating local foods on the way.
Project Engineer (Infrastructure)
With over 30 years of Industry experience, Dave Helmick joined the Marathon team in 2018 as a Project Engineer. Having performed Telecom work in 47 states, as well as Puerto Rico, he has acquired knowledge in many verticals such as, Commercial, Corporate, Military, and Government sectors. Dave is Axis, OSHA 30 General, Confined Space certified, as well as maintains a Maryland Security Technician License, and DCJS license.
Dave oversees a variety of tasks here at Marathon. Some of those tasks include providing project pricing including but not limited to, small business, commercial, government, military, and medical clientele; quoting that ranges from a few outlets, to complete telecom and security build outs; interfacing with the customers, collecting information pertaining to the project, acquiring materials, and directly supporting the labor force throughout the entirety of a project.
While not working at Marathon, you can find Dave spending quality time with his wife, Tammie, and St. Bernard, Otis. Dave also enjoys working with anything mechanical, such as restoring tractors and historic cars.
Project Manager (Infrastructure)
Chris Spriggs is a highly skilled project engineer with over 25 years of experience in the telecom industry. As a project engineer at Marathon Technology Solutions, he brings a strong track record of success in delivering complex projects on time and within budget.
Chris’s expertise in project management, engineering design, and construction oversight has been instrumental in the successful completion of a wide variety of projects, including work for US Government Agencies, Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Leidos and numerus others large corporations.
At Marathon Technology Solutions, Chris is responsible for Engineering and managing projects, working closely with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes. His expertise and leadership have been instrumental in helping Marathon Technology Solutions continue to deliver exceptional solutions to its clients.
Chris spends his spare time doing what he loves, coaching High school girls’ basketball at the Urbana High School in Frederick, MD. Chris also enjoys his time out on the golf course.
Director of Security Technology
Danny has many years in the industry, starting out as an entry field technician, and quickly climbing his way up to his current Director of Security Technology position. Through the years, Danny has focused on gaining as much industry knowledge as he can through hands on and training experiences.
As a Project Engineer at Marathon, Danny assists the sales team with site surveys, proposal development, and estimates. Additionally, he supports project implementation, progress, close-out documentation and deliverables as needed. Danny collaborates with management in developing procedures, growth, and organization of the back-office and field staff. He oversees and implements coordinating labor requirements for projects, material processing/ordering, scheduling and site coordination with clients, project documentation, daily/weekly reporting, closeout deliverables, and completing internal project summaries. To support all of his duties, Danny has earned many certifications such as, Axis, Genetec, Salto, Hanwha (Wisenet), Feenics, Quintron, Identicard, Red Cloud, Galaxy, Honeywell, S2, Brivo, Exacq, ONSSI, Milestone, Samsung, Onix, as well as maintains his Maryland Security and DCJS licenses.
Danny is happily married to his wife, Christina, and enjoys time with her and their 2 dogs and 2 cats.
Project Engineer
After 14 years in the automotive industry, Darby decided to take a leap of faith and venture down a new path. He started in the security industry in 2014, running cable and devising for small camera jobs in public schools. Once he was competent enough with those basic skills, Darby was put on large-scale projects. These larger projects helped provide him with much knowledge and insight into the Security Industry such as, drilling through poured concrete walls to install cameras and card readers, installing card readers on chain link poles, cutting in electric strikes on aluminum store front frames, and an overall understanding of how an access control panel is prepped and wired. Darby excelled at complex projects and was eventually regularly pulled in on some of the most unique and challenging ones. Holding Genetec, Axis and Salto industry certifications, as well as maintaining his Maryland Security and DCJS licenses, have greatly helped Darby continue to excel in this industry.
After a year and a half of being Marathon’s Superintendent, Darby moved into the position of Project Engineer. Darby assists the sales team with site surveys, proposal development, and estimates. Additionally, he supports project implementation, progress, close-out documentation and deliverables as needed. Darby has created an impressive internal training platform for our technicians, so that they can further their knowledge base.
Darby notes that, “being married to my beautiful wife Brandy of 16 years, and our 2 amazing children: Skylar and Deegan”, are the most important things in his life. He loves taking his kids to their sporting events. When the Aker’s family isn’t at a sporting event, you can find them outside fishing, hiking, riding bicycles, ATVs, and dirt bikes around their property, or hosting fun events at their house for family and friends. Darby also enjoys hunting and working on anything with an engine.
Logistics & Fleet Manager
Tom started with Marathon in late 2022 and has worked in the security industry since 2016. In his previous position, Tom began as a technician and worked up to become purchasing manager. With a wide range of skills that includes procurement and warehouse management, Tom also has technical knowledge that includes experience with electronic security systems, video surveillance, access control, and intrusion detection.
In his current role as Logistics & Fleet Manager with Marathon, Tom plays a critical role in the daily operations of the company including safety compliance, training, vehicle maintenance and warehouse management.
In his free time, Tom enjoys working on projects around the house and riding ATVs with his daughter.
Security Superintendent
Michael Pittman joined Marathon in August 2022 bringing along 17 years of field work relating to Technology. He holds an associate degree, and taught 3 years at Lincoln tech College specializing in Electronic field security systems. Michael is certified in MD Security, DCJS, Genetec , Gallagher, Amag, Osha30 , Aerial lifts and more! Michael’s oriented mindset , self-drive and thorough work to protect our client’s asset and keep them safe and happy is what makes him such a great value to our team!
Family means everything to Michael. When Michael is not working, he likes to spend time with his wife Artemia and his three children. They have three dogs, and enjoy training them. Some of his hobbies are fishing and watching football. Whether its’s traveling far or sitting on the couch watching a movie one thing he values is the little things counts the most, because he would not be who he is today without his Family.
